Abstract
Sexual violence is an issue on university campuses in New Zealand. In 2018, the University of Otago established Te Whare Tāwharau Centre for Sexual Violence Support and Prevention to begin addressing and responding to campus-based sexual harm. Two years into operations, Te Whare Tāwharau identified a major gap – supporting and responding to the unique needs of Pacific students and staff. To address this gap, the inaugural role of Pacific Navigator was introduced to bridge the gap between Te Whare Tāwharau and the Pacific community, and to provide cultural advice to all initiatives moving forward. This inaugural Annual Report outlines the rationale behind the role, preliminary talanoa focus groups and recommendations moving forward from the academic year of 2020. It is hoped this role builds the capacity and confidence of the Pacific community to take control of their sexual health outcomes.
