Abstract
This output supports a paper that is forthcoming in the journal Ethics and Human Research. In that paper, we argue that improvements can be made to the ways in which we present research information to potential research participants. We challenge perceptions that human ethics committee (or institutional review board) requirements mean we cannot engage in creative solutions to information provision. We also argue that limited publicly available information on how to develop more effective methods of information provision, and a paucity of published examples of novel information materials (despite a burgeoning literature on the problems associated with long and complicated written information sheets) hamper progress towards new standards of best practice. Here, we publish a Creative Commons version of our most recent illustrated research information sheet. We invite other researchers to build on our work...and ideally, to share their own materials as well, so that we can collectively improve the way we provide information to research participants.
The associated paper is titled: Practical insights into customising the content and design of research information materials to meet participant needs. It is expected to be published, open access, in the journal Ethics and Human Research in either the March-April, or May-June issue in 2027.
