Abstract
Fiji is experiencing one of the world's fastest-growing HIV epidemics, with implications that extend well beyond its borders. Travel, migration, labour and family links mean the epidemic is also relevant to Aotearoa New Zealand's (NZ) public health goals.
While NZ has responded through financial assistance, clinical alerts, surveillance and awareness campaigns, most efforts remain focused on monitoring and communication rather than expanded prevention and support services. Strengthening Pacific-led engagement, culturally safe HIV services, awareness raising, and long-term investment in regional HIV prevention and treatment systems will be critical. The epidemic highlights deep interconnections between Pacific and NZ health outcomes.
