Abstract:
Cancer is one of the largest causes of death worldwide. As a result there is a plethora of research devoted to preventing and treating these diseases. One major issue associated with all chemotherapy drugs is their indiscriminate action against both cancerous and healthy cells. To combat this there is a variety of research being conducted towards the development of drug delivery vectors that aim to target therapeutics to the site of cancer. The work presented in this thesis was undertaken with the aim of developing functionalised metallosupramolecular architectures capable of binding the chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin, with a view towards using these systems as targeted drug delivery vectors.
