Abstract:
We present an overview of the research running concurrently with Solid Energy N.Z’s rehabilitation of Wangaloa Coal Mine, Kaitangata, South Otago. An inter-disciplinary team of scientists and postgraduate students has been formed at the University of Otago to investigate important influential processes involving water, soils, plants and invertebrates. We outline how GIS will be used to manage, integrate and visualise the diverse range of generated data sets to assist with understanding spatial and temporal patterns associated with site rehabilitation.
