Abstract
This study analyzes the crisis communication strategies of two Chinese multinational technology enterprises and tests the effectiveness of their crisis response. This study conducts a quantitative analysis, embedded in a comparative case study, of the crises experienced by ZTE and Huawei in 2018. The analysis uses Situation Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) as the theoretical framework and proposes advice on crisis management for multinational technology enterprises based in emerging countries, as represented by ZTE and Huawei. The results show that when multinational technology enterprises face a crisis, it is necessary to analyze the situation in a rational and localized way with consideration of the various forms of political interference being experienced, and to adopt appropriate crisis communication strategies.
