Abstract
Whānau are reported to Oranga Tamariki where there are concerns regarding children's care, yet little is known about how families experience this process. This participant report, based on a survey and interviews, identifies the key themes for families, who often experience being reported as unhelpful, even when they agree with the report being made. Lack of access to supportive services, system communication problems and disrespectful practice exacerbate negative experiences. Positive experiences occur when practitioners are respectful, clearly focus on the needs of children, and information is correctly recorded and shared.
